Debunking WordPress Myths

There are quite a few myths that have gone around about WordPress. Today I came across this video below. Some of which is is true, but a lot is misguided, or lacks the full explanation.

I will go through every point of this video:

  1. “WordPress is not good at one specific use case or solution”
Generally I disagree. I think WordPress is suitable for most types of sites. I do agree that there are no simple ecommerce solutions for WordPress.
  2. “Maintenance – I was spending more time maintaining my WordPress sites than building my business or creating content”
It definitely can take some time (can be done once per month), but I can’t imagine it overtaking other important tasks. PHP version – you only need to upate this every year or two, if that.
  3. “WordPress lacks performance and security”
He provides an example of the admin username. This is a basic security task which is easy to change. He says you just need to guess the password, but with a free security plugin it restricts log in attempts to a maximum number of attempts. He said you have to pay for a premium security plugin, which is not true. The free ones to a good job. 2FA does not require a paid solution. There are many free 2FA plugins.
  4. “Slow sites”
He compares WordPress which is using a slow builder / framework to another CMS. But the solution is to use a better WordPress builder.
He said you need paid solutions for premium host, CDN, premium security plugin, premium performance plugin. This is not true, you can use free versions for all of the above (except hosting).
  5. “WordPress has lacked innovation”
This is true. WordPress has not innovated as much as it should have.
  6. “WordPress UI needs improvement”
True, the UI definitely needs improvement!

Most of his criticisms become minor if you set up and maintain your site properly in WordPress. It really does not take that much time. Most of this is explained here:
